Mason Hereford
Mason Hereford is the chef and owner of Turkey and the Wolf, a New Orleans counter-service spot named the Best New Restaurant in America by Bon Appétit in 2017 and hailed by Food & Wine and Esquire as one of the most important restaurants of the decade. He also owns Molly’s Rise and Shine, named one of Food & Wine’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2020, and is the author of the New York Times bestselling cookbook Turkey and the Wolf: Flavor Trippin’ in New Orleans, recognized by Food & Wine as one of the 35 Best Cookbooks of All Time. His restaurants and cookbook have received multiple James Beard Award nominations, including his own for Outstanding Restaurateur.
Since 2023, Mason has expanded with several acclaimed ventures: Hungry Eyes, an ’80s-inspired Magazine Street spot named one of America’s Best New Restaurants by Esquire (2023) and Bon Appétit (2024); Hot Stuff, a Southern meat-and-three that landed on Esquire’s Best New Restaurants list; and Turkey and the Wolf Icehouse, an outdoor beer-centric offshoot in Nashville. A Virginia native raised on rollerblades and gas station food, Mason has appeared in a Duke’s Mayonnaise commercial, counts Guy Fieri and Jennifer Coolidge among his friends, and proudly calls New Orleans home—except for the occasional trip to Nashville.
